The Cary Photographic Artists meets at 7:00 p.m., on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at The Cary theatre, 122 E. Chatham St., Cary, unless otherwise noted. Map to Parking at The Cary - Please observe parking restrictions.

If you wish, come early at 6:30p.m. and join in our social time. It is a great opportunity to spend a few minutes catching up with friends, getting to know fellow members, introducing your guest around, exchanging ideas and generally having a nice time before the program starts!

Meeting Highlights

August 14 - Tim Walter
Tim Walter will speak on August 14th on his series Portraits [Trauma] that was recently selected for a solo show at the Click Triangle Photo Festival; the work was recognized for the way it communicates inner emotions such as anger and confusion, as well as resilience, resolve and love.
Tim’s work straddles documentary and art, creating visually stunning images with lighting that pays homage to Renoir or Caravaggio. His portrait participants collaborate in the process to tell a personal story, producing symbolic representation by covering their bodies in pigments, powders and oils, among other substances. A portrait session takes four to eight hours. It begins with an interview or two, and once the photography has begun, the session proceeds with minimal interruption or coaching from Tim as participants are encouraged to tap the subconscious mind for poses and expressions.

On the 14th, Tim’s presentation does contain some non-sexual nudity, and will touch on life experiences such as the loss of a loved one, breakups, PTSD, and entering into motherhood. Tim is largely a self-taught photographer, a native of Durham, and a graduate of Duke and Yale. In 2013 he moved home from a career in Washington, and he’s recently founded The Fruit, a 22,000sf creative playground and art center in downtown Durham. August 28 - CPA Members
Digital Image Critique
This critique of digital images will be conducted by a panel of CPA members. It will be similar to the monthly CPA image critiques held at the Cary Arts Center. As is usual for member images projected at our meetings, dues-current members submissions should be emailed to cpa.inbasket@gmail.com. Images should conform to the submission guidelines discussed in this CPA Educational document guide.
The deadline for image submission is midnight on Sunday, August 25th.
